Watch out for scam

Today's web is increasingly populated with scammers. Even if Kotanamur is a safe website (we monitor it closely), there is always the possibility that a scammer manages to post a fake housing ad. By following a few simple guidelines, you will be able to stay away from those and surf safely !

In general, a few hints should warn you:

  • The housing ad is too good to be true. For example, a luxurious appartment for 300€ all included. Probably a fake !
  • The owner is on a trip abroad and does not give a phone number. Some owners can be abroad, but it should be a warning sign to be extra cautious.
  • The owner is putting your honesty into question, and acts in a pressing manner.
  • The owner mentions a Western Union paiement (or similar international money transfer). This is a no-brainer: stop the deal.

One golden rule:

NEVER send money without having visited the place and signed a lease.

Scammers can be very inventive, but there is NEVER a good reason for asking money ahead of the visit. If you send it, chances are high you'll never see your money again. There is only one thing to do in this situation : stop all contact and let us know immediately.

If you have a doubt about an owner, contact us. We will then be able to prevent other users from contacting him.
