Living in Bomel
Just north of the station, on the other side of the tracks: a former residential, working-class suburb, a few minutes on foot from the centre and from Henallux IESN, with the Abattoirs de Bomel as its cultural centre and a future campus expected for 2029.
The neighbourhood
Long left outside the city walls, Bomel is a northern suburb, separated from the centre by the station and its tracks. It climbs from the railway towards the Vedrin plateau, between the Arquet valley and the Houyoux. It is above all a place where people live, more working-class than the centre, with its residential streets and the Saint-Sacrement church, on place Monseigneur Heylen. On its heights, the former Asty-Moulin quarries have become a walking area.
The neighbourhood is going to change: Henallux is planning a new campus on rue Marie-Henriette, with an inauguration hoped for September 2029, and UNamur kots and a sports hall on the edge of Saint-Servais, for 2028.
Getting around
- On foot, the station is a few minutes away through the underpass that comes out on boulevard du Nord, the university barely a quarter of an hour, and IESN about ten minutes.
- By train, Bomel benefits directly from Namur station.
- By bike, the RAVeL passes very close, and a Li Bia Vélo station is next to the Garden Campus residence.
- Buses serve the neighbourhood until about 10 pm: the 24 on rue de Bomel, the 27 at Heuvy, lines A and 2 on avenue des Croix du Feu.
- Towards the plateau, it climbs, on foot as on a bike.
Schools nearby
Henallux IESN (economics and technology), on rue Joseph Calozet, is the neighbourhood's school. It is also the one waiting for the new campus, from 2029. The university and the other schools in the centre are a few minutes away, on the other side of the station.
Everyday life
The Abattoirs de Bomel, Namur's cultural centre in restored buildings, host contemporary art exhibitions and festivals. For walking, the RAVeL and the Asty-Moulin quarries spare you going through the centre.
Housing
Kots dominate, followed by studios, with a larger share of flats and rooms in the owner's home than in the centre. Flatshares are almost absent. On avenue des Croix du Feu, near IESN, the Garden Campus residence offers studios, a few minutes on foot from the station.
Usual rent: €340 to 400 a month, without charges

A good choice if you study at IESN, if you often go home by train, or if you want to stay within walking distance of the centre without paying Corbeille prices.
Less suited if you are looking for a flatshare, or if you want to avoid climbs, on the plateau side.
